Restore the channel that handles heavy rain

Valley support checked

We assess the base beneath the lining before rebuilding the detail.

Adjacent covering lifted

We remove nearby slate or tile when sound integration requires access.

Clear flow restored

We shape and finish the valley so rain can run towards the gutter.

A hard-working channel between two roof slopes

A roof valley collects rain from adjoining slopes and directs it towards the gutter. That concentrated flow exposes weak joints, displaced materials and damaged lining quickly. Debris can make matters worse by slowing the water and holding moisture against the detail. We inspect the valley and the slate or tile beside it, looking for cracks, open joints and poor support. Roof valley repair in Dalkeith may involve a contained fix, but a failed lining often needs the neighbouring covering lifted so the whole detail can be rebuilt properly.

Strip the failed detail and rebuild its path

Valley work must connect the lining, support and adjoining covering without creating an edge where water can creep underneath. We've carried out involved work that required stripping roof valleys for renewal. This can mean carefully removing nearby tiles or slates, taking out the failed material and rebuilding the valley before the roof covering is reinstated. Indoor staining may appear away from the defect because water can track beneath the slope. We therefore inspect more than the point directly above the damp mark and follow the likely route of entry.

Frequently asked questions

Why is a roof valley more likely to leak?

A valley carries water from two roof slopes, so it handles more flow than the surrounding covering. Failed joints, damaged lining, poor support or trapped debris can interrupt that route. Small defects can therefore admit a noticeable amount of water.

Do tiles or slates need removing for a valley repair?

They often do when the valley lining has failed or the support beneath needs attention. Lifting the adjoining covering gives access to remove and rebuild the detail correctly. We then reinstate compatible materials along both sides of the valley.

Why is the ceiling stain not directly below the valley defect?

Water can enter at the valley and travel along underlay, timber or the roof slope before dripping into the room. We inspect the lining and surrounding section to trace that path instead of assuming the stain sits directly beneath the failure.
